Not far from the Bolina district stands the flourishing Catalmo district, on the left bank of the Agrò stream. Both districts rest on the vanished ruins of the city of Phoenix.

In the district of Catalmo stands the tower of the same name, square in shape and of considerable height.

It stands perched on a spur of rock in an area set back from the river, which is why the Arabic name "Kalac" (rock) and "Albeus" (ditch bed of a river) were carved on the architrave of the door.

According to some studies it appears to be the oldest in the area and in the past centuries the one of greatest strategic importance being the closest to the castle of Poentefur in Savoca.
